Abstract: The recently approved photon-counting CT scanner technology has demonstrated great potential to reduce radiation dose to patients and improve image quality compared with conventional energy-integrating CT systems. In this forum, we evaluate the potential of this technology in terms of various clinical applications. We also demonstrate the role of virtual imaging trials in assessment and optimization of the latest advance in CT imaging.
