Virtual clinical trials and physical phantom studies can be helpful in the evaluation of new breast imaging technologies. This talk discuss two projects that use in silico methods for evaluating breast imaging quality. The first project evaluates possible improvements in detection of small microcalcification clusters that can be achieved with deep learning-based denoising when applied to low dose images. The second project explores differences in study conclusions obtained when assessing classification tasks instead of detection tasks in evaluating breast imaging quality.
