A recently published NEJM paper suggests “an association between exposure to radiation from medical imaging and a small but significantly increased risk of hematologic cancer among children and adolescents.” Following a journal-club style format, this forum will be an open discussion amongst members of CVIT, Duke’s Clinical Imaging Physics Group (CIPG), and Duke radiologists covering the findings of the paper, the strengths and weaknesses of the evidence presented, and a broader discussion about radiation risks in medical imaging and what role virtual clinical trials might play in helping to investigate such risks and optimize imaging examinations in the long term.
